ODRT Spring Training Seminars Planned for April 16-20 in Toronto, ON

fall training adThe OFL- Occupational Disability Response Team will again present several week-long advanced training workshops during the week of April 16-20 at OFL facilities in Toronto. Four workshops are planned that cover compensation essentials, return to work, medical orientation and advanced claims strategies.

The essentials workshop includes workplace insurance rights and obligations, (level 1), benefits and services (level II), and work re-integration and duty to accommodate.

Return to work will appeal to people who assist injured workers with work re-integration and workplace strategies and disability prevention practices to ensure successful return to work.

For those involved in handling claim files, the medical orientation workshop will provide a better understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, medical testing and mental stress issues and policies.

The Advanced Claims workshop provides a combination of topical sessions for experienced representatives. Sessions include dealing with electronic evidence at appeals, appealing Mental Stress, Chronic Pain and CPP Disability claims, understanding how to craft the perfect written submission at the ARO or WSIAT level and the most current research and caselaw regarding accommodation of workers with disabilities. ODRT plans Workplace Appeals & Dispute Resolution course for April 21 - 27, 2012

return to work ad  The OFL Occupational Disability Response Team is pleased to offer its advanced Appeals and Dispute Resolution workshop on April 21 - 27, 2012 at the BayView conference centre. This 6 day workshop develops skills necessary for participants to become effective representatives in various dispute resolution schemes.
In this hands-on course, participants will learn the structure of the appeals branch of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), how to begin the appeals process and the legal principles involved. Preparation for a hearing will be examined including: review of the file, gathering additional evidence, researching law, policy and precedent and preparation of
witnesses. Further information on questioning, cross questioning and re-direct at a hearing are discussed. Hearing presentations are discussed with respect to oral advocacy, code of conduct, opening and closing statements, objections and use of legal precedents.

Further to the WSIB appeal process, the Workplace Safety and Appeals Tribunal WSIAT) process is also discussed. In addition to the information presented, participants will work with a claim file and, in groups, represent both worker and employer interests at the WSIB appeal level and at a WSIAT by presenting in front of an Appeals Resolution Officer and a Vice Chair respectively. Pre-requisites include ODRT Workplace Insurance Level 1 & Level 2 courses or equivalent training.
